Select text on a web page, in Google Docs, in a PDF document or in some ebooks and have it read out using high-quality synthetic speech. You can choose among 15 different languages and about 30 different voices.
Listening to individual letters
Oribi Speak can sound out letters as you write them. This direct auditory feedback makes it easier to choose the right letter.
Listening while writing
If you press the spacebar, Oribi Speak will read out the last word and/or sentence you wrote. This ‘writing echo’ makes it easier to reflect immediately on what you are writing.
High-quality Text to Speech
Oribi Speak is a high-quality Text to Speech program functioning as an extension to the Google Chrome web browser. It reads out selected text in Google Docs or other text editors as well as selectable text on web pages and in PDF and EPUB files. Oribi Speak can also sound out individual letters and read out words and sentences as you are writing. This often makes it possible to hear immediately that a letter or word you have written is incorrect.
Oribi Speak comes with a built-in word prediction that helps out with spelling and enables faster writing.
OCR tool for reading
Text in pictures is hard to select, but our OCR tool (Optical Character Recognition) in Oribi Speak will both select and read out text in any picture in Google Chrome.
Works inside of Chrome
Oribi Speak appears as a green icon to the right of the address field in Google Chrome. To listen to selected text, you just click that icon. To pause, click it again. There are also a few keyboard shortcuts that you can use.
To listen to certain types of documents like PDF and EPUB files, you select the text, right-click (on a touchpad: click with two fingers) and choose Read out selected text in the window that opens.
15 different languages and twice as many voices
Oribi Speak offers a broad choice of 15 different languages and 52 different voices. This makes the program perfect for multilingual people. It can also be useful to help you learn new languages.
The settings in Oribi Speak allow you to make a number of choices:
Switching on or off the reading support after each word or sentence
Choosing languages and voices
Adjusting the speech rate
Switching on or off the sounding-out of letters
Shortcuts for listening and for on/off
Oribi Speak will update automatically when you open Google Chrome.
